September 05, 2017 Founded in 1948 by internationally renowned choreographers George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein, the New York City Ballet has grown to become one of the premier dance companies in the world. Today, the NYCB maintains a repertoire more expansive than any other ballet company in the nation, staging upwards of 80 shows between Lincoln Center and its summer home in Saratoga Springs. This September and October, the NYCB will perform Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, a sublime production that enacts the heartrending tale of Princess Odette, who is transformed into a swan by a malicious sorcerer; Here/Now, a series that showcases 21st-century masterworks by Christopher Wheeldon, Alexei Ratmansky, and Justin Peck; as well as several All Balanchine programs highlighting the breathtaking choreographic feats of the company’s most famous director.
