Animals Take to the Air at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
November 08, 2017
On Thursday, November 23, at 9 A.M. sharp, millions of New Yorkers will be joined by tens of millions of viewers across the nation tuning in for one of the biggest, most venerable holiday celebrations in the world: Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. When the famed Manhattan department store debuted the parade in 1924, they were unsure whether it would be popular enough to warrant a repeat performance. Their worries were quickly laid to rest, however, when crowds of men, women, and children flocked to the parade route to enjoy marching bands, colorful floats, and live animals loaned out by Central Park Zoo. Today, the animals process not on the street itself, but high above in the form of massive cartoon character balloons. New additions to the inflatable line-up this year include Chase, the fearless German shepherd known to children across America as the leader of the PAW Patrol, and Olaf, the bumbling and beloved snowman who won a place in our hearts as part of Disney’s Frozen. Whether you’re a lifelong New Yorker, a visitor to the city, or just enjoying the live NBC broadcast, the Lex Hotel welcomes you to another Thanksgiving with the greatest parade on earth!
