Visit The Flatiron Building

July 06, 2018

There’s a myriad of reasons to step outside this summer in New York City. Enjoy sightseeing while feeling the surge of energy that comes with higher temperatures. We suggest heading to 175 Fifth Avenue to admire one of the most iconic landmark buildings in Manhattan. Famous for its triangular shape, the Flatiron building is only 22-story tall, but when viewed from below seems taller. Designed by Chicago architects Daniel Burnham and Frederic Dinkelberg in 1902, the skeleton of the building is steel with limestone and terra-cotta fronted. Initially criticized for its design, spectators were afraid that the triangular shape and the height would cause the building to collapse. Well, it's still standing. However, that doesn't mean it didn't have its share of complications. Upon the inauguration of the building, management had to designate restrooms for women on alternating floors, because the designers had failed to build ladies’ restrooms. At it's narrowest point, it measures six-feet across, making it a beautiful subject for photos by famous artist such as Alfred Stieglitz and Edward Steichen.
